Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday afternoon at the age of 96, the British royal family announced. The British ruler was in Balmoral, Scotland, where the closest family circle traveled during the day.
“The King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral and return to London tomorrow,” the official statement read. The website of the royal family is reduced, for now, to a simple page where the death is communicated.

This morning, the Queen’s doctors were “concerned for Her Majesty’s health” and recommended “medical supervision”.
“The Queen continues to feel comfortable and at Balmoral,” the brief statement said.
