Ukrainian emergency services said on Saturday they had recovered more than 7,000 explosive devices in the Kherson region, recently liberated by Kiev forces after months of Russian occupation.
In total, they counted 7,042 explosives that have been “removed and neutralized” in the region since the withdrawal of Russian soldiers. Ukrainian rescue teams claim to have inspected almost 700 hectares of territory, 60 kilometers of railways and 326 homes.
Several years to clear
The authorities are also urging the population of Kherson and its surroundings to be very careful. According to The Guardian, the clearance of this region could take several years.
Ukrainian forces liberated the city of Kherson in early November, after the Russians withdrew, to organize the defense along the left bank of the Dnieper.
