The US announces arms sales to Qatar during the halftime match between the US and Iran

Joe Biden’s administration approved $1 billion in arms sales to Qatar on Tuesday.

The information was revealed during the intermission of the US-Iran soccer match leading up to the FIFA World Cup taking place in Qatar.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it has signed a contract with Qatar for the supply of ten defense systems with unmanned devices (drones) and 200 interceptors and related equipment.

Qatar, along with other Arab (or Persian) Gulf states, is threatened by Iranian allies in the region.

The ministry said in a statement that the sale would “support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that remains a major force for political stability and economic progress.” in the Middle East.
