Detected in Spain another three suspicious envelopes addressed to Ukrainian representations

The Spanish postal company detected on Monday three suspicious envelopes in which animal eyes were inserted, addressed to the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid and the country’s consulates in Malaga and Barcelona, police sources revealed.

The envelopes were detected this morning by the company’s security systems, which reported the fact to the National Police.

The authorities ruled out the presence of explosive or explosive substances and verified that the envelopes contained animal eyes.

Some characteristics of the envelopes are similar to the one received last Friday at the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid and to those received at other embassies and consulates of that country in different parts of Europe, according to police sources quoted by the Spanish news agency EFE.

After what happened on Friday, the National Police sent the information on the envelope to the Post Office, which helped with the interceptions carried out today.

Also in Portugal, the Ukrainian embassy in Lisbon received two suspicious envelopes this afternoon and called the PSP, which went to the scene with means from the Special Police Unit, according to a police source explained to Lusa.

The Ukrainian embassy in Lisbon confirmed to Lusa that it called the Public Security Police after having identified “suspicious correspondence”.

These episodes occur after six trap letters were sent in Spain, the first of them on November 24 to the Moncloa Palace (seat of the Spanish Government) and addressed to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

Others were received on Wednesday by the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid and on Thursday by the United States embassy.

Trap letters were also sent to the Spanish Ministry of Defense, to the Satellite Center of the Torrejón de Ardoz air base (Madrid) and to the Instalaza arms company in Zaragoza.

Only one of these booby-trapped packages caused a minor injury, when a Ukrainian embassy worker opened the envelope, sustaining injuries to his hands.

Tax sources indicated this weekend that the six envelopes came from Valladolid and from the same author, although so far he has not been identified.

The Spanish Minister of the Interior recommended this Friday that the European Commission and partner countries take action if they receive trap letters similar to those sent to various entities in Spain, admitting that they may be related to the war in Ukraine.
