Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to attend Elizabeth II’s funeral, which is expected in 10 days in London, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
“The option (of his displacement) is not contemplated,” he told the press laconically, while the Russian president is a pariah in the West since the offensive against Ukraine.
Not a “(special) place in the hearts of Russians”
The Kremlin spokesman said that he does not know at this time if a representative of the Russian government will attend the funeral of Elizabeth II, while the details of the ceremony have not yet been communicated by the services of the new King Charles III.
“All this has not yet been announced one way or another by the king’s services, by the UK authorities,” said Dmitry Peskov.
If the spokesman praised the queen’s “wisdom” and “authority” throughout the world, “qualities now rare on the international scene”, he also considered that she did not occupy a “particular place in the hearts of Russians” . For his part, Vladimir Putin greeted the memory of the queen on Thursday.
Elizabeth II died this Thursday at the age of 96 at her residence in Balmoral, Scotland, unleashing a great wave of emotions in the world.
