Al Jazeera files complaint against Israel at the International Criminal Court for the death of a journalist

The television channel Al Jazeera announced on Tuesday that it has filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court against the Israeli Army for the death of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, fatally shot last May in the West Bank.

According to Al Jazeera, the elements transmitted to the International Criminal Court “bring to light new evidence and video images that clearly show that Shireen Abu Akleh and other co-workers were directly attacked by the Israeli occupation forces,” on May 11. .

The Al Jazeera journalist was shot in the head during an Israeli army operation in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank.

At the time, the reporter was wearing a bulletproof vest and a helmet with the inscription “press” clearly visible.

“The statements by the Israeli authorities according to which Shireen was accidentally hit in an exchange of fire are completely unfounded words,” the television note added.

Today, a reporter for Agence France Press in The Hague saw a lawyer from Al Jazeera enter the headquarters of the International Criminal Court to present the case.

The court is not required to hear the case.

The Israeli army, which has occupied the West Bank since 1967, acknowledged for the first time last September “a strong possibility” that Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian and American national, had been shot by an Israeli soldier.
