Addressing the chamber at the beginning of the plenary session that began today in Strasbourg, France, Roberta Metsola began by confiding that the last few days have been “one of the longest” of her career, given the police investigation that led to the arrest. of several people, including that of a vice-president of the European Parliament, the Greek deputy Eva Kaili, for her alleged involvement in a corruption case related to bribery from Qatar to influence the institution’s decisions regarding the holding of the World Cup in that country.
“I have to choose my words very carefully so as not to in any way compromise ongoing investigations or undermine the principle of the presumption of innocence, and I will.
