The adult smoking rate is already relatively low in New Zealand, where it reaches 8%. The text adopted on Tuesday and called “Tobacco-free environments” aims to reduce this rate to less than 5% by 2025.
The number of vendors authorized to sell tobacco products will be reduced to 600, a significant reduction from the 6,000 in the country today. The amount of nicotine will also be “reduced to non-addictive levels,” added Ayesha Verrall.
