No Christmas or New Year truce is being discussed on the ground in Ukraine at the moment, the Kremlin said on Wednesday, ahead of the Christmas season.
“No one has made any proposals, this issue is not on the agenda,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about the possibility of a break in fighting in Ukraine.
In Ukraine, the war is still raging despite some successes in Kyiv in recent months. Since October and a series of humiliating Russian military setbacks, Moscow has regularly launched massive drone and missile strikes.
It is about destroying, as temperatures plummet and snow falls, Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving millions cold and dark. The previous major Russian attack on energy targets across the country dates back to December 5.
More strikes on Wednesday
This Wednesday morning, Russia launched a new drone strike in Kyiv. Ukraine claimed to have destroyed these drones, which caused no injuries, according to the Kyiv military administration.
These attacks come the day after an international conference organized in Paris in support of Ukraine, and this as Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to continue his bombing campaign. The Kyiv authorities were able to raise more than one billion euros in pledges to help the population through the winter.
