France-Morocco: Joe Biden and the Moroccan Prime Minister watched the semifinal

Joe Biden actually finished his speech to the African leaders four minutes into the game, just in time to see Theo Hernandez’s goal.

He had promised it, he did it: Joe Biden, aware of speaking just before the France-Morocco World Cup semifinal, sent his speech to the African leaders gathered at the Washington summit to go watch the game with the Moroccan Prime Minister Minister.

The US president, in front of some fifty heads of state including Liberia’s, former soccer star George Weah, whose son Tim plays for the US team, quipped in the introduction: “I’m sure you say ‘Make it short Biden’ , (…) a semifinal is coming”.

He also greeted the presence of Morocco in this phase of the competition, unprecedented for an African nation, provoking applause from the hall.

In fact, his speech lasted a long quarter of an hour, 17 minutes to be precise, and ended at 2:04 p.m…. four minutes after kick-off and just in time for Theo Hernández’s French premiere.

He then watched the first half with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and other leaders attending the summit, the White House confirmed.

He left the room where the discussions were taking place at 2:48 p.m., shortly after the break.
