The famous Iranian actress and fervent activist for women’s rights Taraneh Alidoosti was arrested this Saturday in Iran, after supporting the protest movement that entered its fourth month, the judicial authority and a media outlet announced.
Known for having acted in several films by filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, Taraneh Alidoosti has repeatedly supported the protests on Instagram, sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16. The 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman died after being arrested in Tehran by morality police, who accused her of violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code for women.
“Taraneh Alidoosti has been arrested for her recent actions, posting false information and content and inciting chaos,” the Tasnim news agency announced, without specifying the place of the arrest.
The Iranian justice confirmed the arrest, by his order. “Following unsubstantiated comments about recent events and the posting of provocative material supporting street riots by various celebrities in recent weeks… some of these people have been arrested,” the law enforcement agency said. “Taraneh Alidoosti, who did not provide documents to support some of her allegations,” is among those arrested, it added.
“Pay the price”
The 38-year-old actress especially denounced on December 8 the hanging of Mohsen Shekari, executed after being accused of “war against God”.
“Any international organization that watches this bloodbath without reacting is a disgrace to humanity,” he wrote on his Instagram account.
In November he promised to stay in his country, “pay the price” that it would cost him to defend his rights and stop working to support the families of those killed or arrested during the protests.
