The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Vega-C rocket was lost shortly after takeoff on Tuesday, an official at the space center in Kourou, French Guiana, reported.
“The mission is lost,” said the head of Arianespace, Stéphane Israel, from the Kourou Space Center.
The rocket, which would make its first commercial flight, carried two Airbus satellites.
Ten minutes after takeoff, at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday (1:47 a.m. in Lisbon), the rocket’s trajectory deviated from its programmed trajectory and telemetry no longer reached the control room.
About 2 minutes and 27 seconds after launch, an anomaly occurred on Zefiro 40, ending the Vega C mission.
Data analysis is being performed to find out the reasons for this failure.#VV22– Arianespace (@Arianespace) December 21, 2022
