After the polar cold, sweetness. The extreme cold that has plagued the United States for several days should begin to subside this Tuesday in the east and midwest of the country, after the “blizzard of the century” that killed at least 49 people, including 27 in a single New York State County, and caused transportation chaos.
The northeast of the country was particularly affected for this “cyclonic bomb”phenomenon that occurs when a mass of cold air collides with a mass of warm air.
Parts of upstate New York were blanketed in snow, stranding vehicles and thousands without power over Christmas weekend.
Twenty-five people have died in this state where the city of Buffalo was hit hard by blizzards, freezing cold and heavy “lake effect” snowfall, the result of freezing air moving over the warmer waters of the nearby Great Lakes.
A warmer new year
“Temperatures are expected to reach about 5°C above average across much of the central United States by midweek,” said Faye Hulton, a weather expert for the guardian.
While on December 23 it was between -12 and -20 °C in most of the eastern United States, it should be between 8 and 15 °C on December 30, according to a model of tropical little things.
