The US Coast Guard repatriated 143 Cuban migrants on Tuesday after intercepting 10 boats off Florida (southeast), it reported in a statement.
The most recent intervention of the force took place on Friday 24 kilometers from Long Key, one of the islands in the extreme south of that US state, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
The US Guard warned that “anyone attempting to migrate illegally by sea will be intercepted and returned to their country of origin.”
“The Coast Guard (…) maintains an active presence in the Florida Sounds (…) to save lives and promote safe and legal migration,” he added.
Since October 1, the US Coast Guard has intercepted 3,839 Cubans in those waters.
