The decision was made by magistrate Alexandre de Moraes and responded to a request from Lula da Silva’s team, after groups supporting the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro, threatened to carry out attacks or violent actions to try to prevent the inauguration of the president. . -elected in a ceremony that will take place next Sunday in the Brazilian capital.
Moraes justified his decision to comply with the judicial request made by the team of the future Brazilian president, citing various events that have occurred in the last two weeks in Brasilia carried out by supporters of Bolsonaro, who has not yet recognized his defeat at the polls. Last October.
Two weeks ago, after the arrest of an indigenous radical ‘Bolsonarista’ who had threatened Lula da Silva on social networks, dozens of far-right activists caused serious riots in central Brasilia, where they stormed a police station and burned a dozen vehicular. .
Last Saturday, the Brasilia police defused a bomb installed in a truck heading to the city’s airport.
The frustrated attack was attributed to a man who was arrested and declared himself a follower of Bolsonaro. The suspect confessed that he planned to detonate the explosive at the airport to “sow chaos” and force the Armed Forces to intervene to prevent Lula da Silva from taking office.
In all these cases, those responsible for the violence were part of far-right groups that do not recognize the election of Lula da Silva and are camping outside the army headquarters in Brasilia and demanding a military coup to keep Bolsonaro in power.
Many of these people, according to the authorities, have weapons obtained thanks to the policies promoted by Bolsonaro, who encouraged his followers to acquire all kinds of weapons with the idea of promoting self-defense against crime.
