It was February 24 when everything changed in Ukraine and Russia. The day that Europe and the world began to change with an invasion condemned throughout the West. Although most of the member states at the UN headquarters condemned the invasion of Ukraine by the troops of the Russian Federation, it was more difficult to reach a consensus on the policy of sanctions against Moscow. The majority of the world population lives in countries that have not adopted sanctions against Moscow, such as China, India, but also Brazil, South Africa or Indonesia.

In Ukraine, on that February 24, a procession of atrocities began and the largest wave of refugees in Europe since World War II. The Bucha, Izium massacres, but also the war crimes that will have been committed in Ukrainian cities and towns that many have never heard of: Kherson, Bakhmut, Dnipropetrovsk, Mikolayiv, Mariupol, lands practically reduced to rubble.
Zelensky, on the first day of the invasion, refused to go into exile and asked for weapons. He started the resistance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, like a missile fired from a multiple launch system, leaped into the center of the world political arena, taking place in statements and virtual sessions before parliaments around the world.
Over and over again, countless times, in fact, reiterating the request: Ukraine needs humanitarian aid, but above all it wants weapons. More and more sophisticated weapons, to resist the invasion of a much more powerful aggressor:
Almost without leaving the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin was giving orders, annexing Ukrainian regions after illegal referendums -Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia- without ever having conquered them militarily.
The Russian president accused the West (through NATO and the US) of waging a war against Russia and wanting the extermination of Russians and Russian-speakers in eastern Ukraine.
The year did not end without the surprise visit of 2022. Zelensky, in person and not by video call, speaking before both chambers of the United States Congress, in Washington. He thanked the support and asked for the Patriot missile system, to better defend Ukrainian airspace.
Energy and fuel prices rise throughout Europe, less grain reaches those most in need, despite the agreement reached by the United Nations and Turkey, the large-scale Russian invasion has already caused tens of thousands of deaths and caused people to flee of more than 14 million people -6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 7.8 million to European countries- according to the latest UN data, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II .
