British influencer arrested after exchanging words with Greta Thunberg

British digital influencer Andrew Tate appeared in court this Friday in Bucharest for aggravated pimping, the week an exchange he had on Twitter with activist Greta Thunberg went viral on the Internet.

According to a spokeswoman for the Romanian agency against organized crime, Ramona Bolla, in statements to Agence France Presse (AFP), Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, were detained “for 24 hours.” The hearing began at 2:00 p.m. local time (12:00 p.m. in Lisbon), and the court must decide on a possible 30-day preventive detention.

On Tuesday, Andrew Tate shared a post on his Twitter account bragging about owning 33 cars, asking Greta Thunberg for her email address so that he could send the activist “the full list of the collection of cars and their emissions”. [de gases com efeito de estufa] oversized”.

Greta Thunberg responded, sharing a made-up email address: [email protected] (energiadepé[email protected], free Portuguese translation).

However, this Friday, the Swedish activist, after the arrest of Andrew Tate was reported, wrote on Twitter that “this is what happens when pizza packages are not recycled.” This is because, in response to the ’email’ invented by Greta Thunberg, Andrew Tate responded, this Wednesday, also on Twitter, with a video in which he appeared with pizza packages, which will have served to help the authorities discover the location of the ‘influencer’.

However, the Romanian authorities have denied this theory. “It has nothing to do with it,” said Ramona Bolla, quoted by AFP.

“To determine whether or not a person is in the country, we use a whole set of means,” added the spokeswoman, referring to the fact that the “arrest and search warrants” were already ready.

Andrew Tate has been under investigation since the beginning of 2021 and a magazine had already been carried out at the ‘influencer’s’ house in April of this year.

Andrew and Tristan Tate are suspected of racketeering, rape and human trafficking in multiple countries. To date, six alleged victims have been identified.

Suspects would trick victims by pretending to have feelings for them. They were then kidnapped and allegedly forced, through violence, into prostitution and participating in pornographic films.

The Romanian Public Ministry released images of searches carried out on Thursday, in which it is possible to see firearms, wads of money and sports cars, seized in different places in Romania.

According to the Romanian press, two women, one of whom is a US citizen, were released by police in April from a house in Bucharest. The two claimed to have been forcibly held at the location by the two brothers.

The two, both former kickboxers, moved to Romania a few years ago. Andrew Tate was one of the contestants on the 17th British Big Brother, having been cut from the show after video surfaced of him beating up a woman.

After that, Andrew Tate began to dedicate himself to social networks, where he promotes masculinist theses. His accounts have been suspended several times for misogynistic comments, but the Twitter account has recently been reactivated.
