This Saturday, the President of the Republic sent a message of condolences to Pope Francis, “expressing deep consternation at the death of His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.”
“The President of the Republic stressed that throughout his eight years of Pontificate, Pope Benedict XVI continued to be a symbol of stability and defense of the values of the Catholic Church: love for neighbor, solidarity and support for the poorest and The importance of Forgiveness and Reconciliation is already unprotected”, can be read in the message published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic.
As a Portuguese, he recalled the Apostolic Visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Portugal, in May 2010, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the beatification of the Little Shepherds of Fatima, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, without forgetting the words of appreciation expressed at the time about our country”.
