Terrible tragedy at Montgomery Regional Airport, Alabama, in the eastern United States. An employee of an American Airlines subsidiary has died after being “taken by the engine” of a plane while the device was parked at one of the landing gates.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it had opened an investigation into the accident, which happened on Saturday afternoon.
“A preliminary report is expected in two to three weeks,” said a statement broadcast by various US media, including CNN and Insider.

The victim, for the time being anonymous, was an employee of Piedmont Airlines, a local affiliate of American Airlines. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” the airport wrote on Twitter on the night of December 31-January 1.
“We are saddened to learn of the tragic loss of an AA/Piedmont Airlines team member,” said Wade A. Davis, regional airport manager.
