The United Kingdom observes this Sunday a minute of silence in honor of Elizabeth II

Britain will observe a nationwide moment of silence to celebrate “a moment of reflection” on Sunday, the eve of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The British Government has announced that the “moment of reflection” will take place at 8:00 p.m. People were encouraged to observe the minute of silence at home or at community events.

Funeral services for the monarch will be held on September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London.

Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, after more than 70 years of the longest reign in UK history.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on April 21, 1926 in London and became Queen of England in 1952, at age 25, after the death of her father, George VI, who took over when his brother abdicated.

After the death of the monarch, his eldest son, 73 years old, assumes the role of Carlos III.
