“Trump incited violence”
Sandra Garza is seeking millions of dollars in damages. For her, Donald Trump’s persistent refusal to recognize Joe Biden’s victory led to the violence on January 6, 2021, an episode that he considers fatal in the death of his partner. “Many participants in the attack have since disclosed that they were acting on what they believe to be direct orders from Defendant Trump in the service of his country,” the complaint states.
He also believes that the former president’s speech hours before the riots, urging people to “fight like hell,” was “the culmination of a coordinated effort to overturn the certification vote” by Congress.
“Donald Trump directly incited violence at the US Capitol and then looked approvingly at the invaded building,” the complaint states, “Donald Trump did all of these things solely in his personal self-interest.”
