The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, accused former president Jair Bolsonaro this Sunday, accusing him of genocide, for provoking and encouraging violent invasions of public buildings this Sunday in Brasilia, the capital of the country.
“This genocide not only caused this, it not only stimulated it, but, who knows, it also continues to stimulate it through social networks,” said Lula da Silva, referring to Bolsonaro who is in Orlando, in the United States.
“In fact, he ran away so he wouldn’t put the girdle on me. It is very sad. After the democratic party of the first day. [de janeiro]the most important celebration of the inauguration of a President of the Republic”, added the Brazilian head of state, referring to the absence of Bolsonaro at the inauguration ceremony that marked the beginning of his term.
Referring to the hundreds of ‘Bolsonaristas’ who resisted encamped in areas of Brasilia, mainly in front of the Army headquarters, Lula da Silva said they were afraid of attacking the day he took office due to the presence of supporters of the new boss. of State who were in Praça dos Três Poderes, but considered that the extremists who support the former president took advantage of “the silence of a Sunday when we are still forming a government” to attack the most emblematic public buildings in Brasilia.
“Today everyone knows that there is more than one speech by the former President of the Republic encouraging this. [Bolsonaro] stimulated the invasion of the Supreme Court,” said Lula da Silva.
“But [Bolsonaro] arrived, he stimulated the invasion of the three powers” and “that is also his responsibility.” This is the responsibility of the parties that support him. And all of this will be investigated very, very quickly,” he concluded.
The Brazilian president decreed federal intervention in Brasilia after hundreds of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro invaded and destroyed the National Congress, the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the seats of the legislative, executive and judicial powers.
The protesters, who broke through the police protection barriers, are calling for military intervention to overthrow President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, one week after his inauguration.
The Military Police managed, however, to regain control of the STF headquarters and the Brazilian head of state promised that all those responsible for the invasions would be punished.
