1,200 demonstrators were detained and taken to the federal police headquarters in at least 40 buses

At least 1,200 protesters camped in the Federal District were arrested in front of the army headquarters in Brasília and taken by at least 40 buses to the Federal Police headquarters.

At the same time, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security has e-mailed to receive information from terrorists who raided the headquarters of the three powers this Sunday.

Thousands of supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro raided the headquarters of the National Congress on Sunday, then the Palácio do Planalto, the seat of government, and the Federal Supreme Court building in the Brazilian capital.

After breaking through security barriers abroad, pro-Bolsonaro demonstrators raided the buildings of the three institutions that house the legislative, executive and judiciary in a violent protest in the capital, Brasília, where the president was not present.

Footage broadcast live on social media showed several protesters leaving a trail of destruction in the three public buildings, with no visible attempts by authorities to restore order in the first few hours.

Radicals, not recognizing the results of the October 30 presidential election in which Lula defeated Bolsonaro, have called for military intervention to overthrow Brazil’s president.

Military police managed to clear Praça dos Três Poderes completely, in an operation that resulted in at least 300 arrests.

The invasion, which was immediately condemned by the international community, began after militants from Brazil’s far right – supporters of the former president – called for protests on the Esplanada dos Ministérios in Brasília.
