Russian authorities warned on Monday that Ukrainian armed forces were preparing for a “major offensive” to regain control of the Zaporijia nuclear power plant.
According to the spokesman for the pro-Russian governor of Zaporijia, Vladimir Rogov, the Ukrainian army is moving artillery elements, including howitzers and multiple launch systems, into the area.
Rogov said Ukraine was preparing a “major offensive in the nuclear power plant zone (…)”, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
In addition, the governor indicated that, according to his intelligence service, the United Kingdom and the United States will cooperate with Ukraine to coordinate this counter-offensive.
The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on Feb. 24 has already led to more than 13 million people fleeing — more than six million internally displaced persons and more than seven million to European countries — according to the latest UN data. , which ranks this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and Russia of political and economic sanctions.
The UN has stated that since the start of the war, which today entered its 201st day, 5,827 civilians have been killed and 8,421 injured, stressing that these numbers are far below the true number.
