Lula criticizes security in Brasilia, promises investigation and rejects coup

The president of Brazil criticized on Monday the actions of the security agents on Sunday, when ‘bolsonaristas’ invaded public institutions in Brasilia, attempting a coup that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva guaranteed would not take place.

“Them [apoiantes do ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro] They want a coup d’état and there will not be one”, said Lula da Silva, during a meeting with governors and representatives of the 27 states of the country, judges, ministers and politicians.

“They have to learn that democracy is the most complicated thing for us, because it requires us to support others, it requires living with people we don’t like, with whom we don’t get along, but it’s the only regime that allows everyone to have the opportunity to compete and whoever wins has the right to govern,” he added.

In a meeting that brought together governors, judges of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), including the president of the court, Rosa Weber, ministers, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, the first vice president of the Senate, Veneziano Vital do Rego and The Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, the Brazilian Head of State, also criticized the actions of the security agents who escorted the ‘Bolsonaristas’ to Praça dos Três Poderes, before they invaded public institutions.

“There was an explicit collusion of the police supporting the protesters. Even here in Palace [do Planalto]Brazilian army soldier talking to people as if they were allies,” Lula da Silva shot.

The Brazilian president reaffirmed that at least 1,500 people were arrested after the violent events in Brasilia and said that the government will make an effort to investigate all those involved in acts of vandalism.

Lula also guaranteed that the financiers of both the bus caravans that took them to Brasilia and the camps set up in front of barracks throughout the country, which were dismantled by court order this Monday after more than two months of mobilization, will be investigated. . against the election result.

“We are going to find out who financed and paid. I am a specialist in camps and strikes and it is impossible to spend two months without having funds to guarantee our daily bread. We are not going to be authoritarian, but we are going to investigate,” she said.

“It was very difficult for us to conquer democracy in that country. We need to learn to coexist democratically in diversity”, added Lula da Silva.

The ruler defended a union of politicians from the left, center, right and republican institutions to preserve democracy.

“We will not allow democracy to get out of hand, because it is the only chance we have to guarantee that these humble people can eat three times a day, or have the right to work,” he concluded.

After the meeting, all the participants left the Planalto Palace together and walked to the STF headquarters, in a symbolic gesture of support for the judiciary that has been strongly attacked by Bolsonaro in the last four years and damaged on Sunday by supporters of the former president.

The ‘Bolsonaristas’ invaded and destroyed on Sunday the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court, the Congress and the Planalto Palace, in Brasilia, forcing the police to intervene to restore order and raising the repudiation of the international community.

The Military Police managed to retake control of the headquarters of the three powers, in an operation that resulted in around 1,500 detainees.

The invasion began after militants from the Brazilian extreme right, supporters of the former president, defeated by Lula da Silva in last October’s elections, called a protest on the Esplanada dos Ministérios.

However, the judge of the Federal Supreme Court Alexandre de Moraes dismissed the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, for 90 days, considering that both the governor and the former Secretary of Security and former Minister of Justice of Bolsonaro Anderson Torres have acted with negligence and omission .
