Bolsonaro’s deputy accuses the government of acting “inhumane and illegal” with the protesters

Former Brazilian vice president Hamilton Mourão criticized on Tuesday the treatment they are giving to the radical protesters who invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the three powers in Brasilia on Sunday.

“The indiscriminate detention of more than 1,200 people, who are currently being held in precarious conditions at the Federal Police facilities in Brasilia, demonstrates that the new government, consistent with its Marxist-Leninist roots, acts in an amateurish, inhumane, and illegal manner. ”, denounced the vice president of the government of Jair Bolsonaro, who left office on the last day of 2022.

“Brazil and the detainees expect quick action from our parliamentarians in office and from real entities linked to Human Rights,” added the senator-elect on Twitter.

In videos broadcast on social networks, several radical protesters detained by the Brazilian authorities denounced the alleged precarious conditions to which they are being subjected in detention centers in Brasilia.

The Ministry of Human Rights has already reacted by saying that it was in tune with the position adopted by the Brazilian president, Lula da Silva, “and by the heads of the other powers in the sense of giving way to coup plotters – and the frustrated attempt to abolish the Democratic State of Law – the most rigorous treatment, in terms of the Law and the Federal Constitution”.

“As history has shown, the coup plotters are invariably violators of human rights and detractors of the citizenry. The true defense of human rights, therefore, goes through the repudiation of the coup d’état and the violence promoted by anti-democratic groups and guided by fascism”, he explained.

Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court, Congress and the Planalto Palace in Brasilia on Sunday, forcing police to intervene to restore order and drawing condemnation from the international community.

The Military Police managed to retake control of the headquarters of the three powers, in an operation that resulted in around 1,500 detainees.

The invasion began after militants from the Brazilian extreme right, supporters of the former president, defeated by Lula da Silva in last October’s elections, called a protest on the Esplanada dos Ministérios.

However, the judge of the Federal Supreme Court Alexandre de Moraes dismissed the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, for 90 days, considering that both the governor and the former Secretary of Security and former Minister of Justice of Bolsonaro Anderson Torres have acted with negligence and omission .
