The coffin with the body of Queen Elizabeth II will leave this Tuesday by plane from Edinburgh, Scotland, to London, where the state funeral will take place on Monday.
The casket will leave the Cathedral of Santo Egídio at 5:00 p.m. local time (the same time in Lisbon) by hearse to the airport accompanied by the monarch’s daughter, Princess Ana, who will also travel on the same plane to London.
In the British capital, after a tour through the streets of the city, the coffin will rest in Buckingham Palace on trestles in the Arch Room, until it is transferred to the British Parliament building on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, King Charles III continues to tour the various nations of the United Kingdom after the proclamation of the Sabbath, traveling today to Belfast, to Hillsborough Castle, where he will visit an exhibition on Elizabeth II’s relationship with Northern Ireland.
As there is no self-government, the King will meet with the Minister for Northern Ireland, Chris Heaton-Harris, the party leaders and will receive a message of condolences from the President of the Regional Assembly.
Accompanied by the queen consort, Camila, the King will attend a mass at the Cathedral of Santa Ana in honor of Queen Elizabeth II and will later meet with leaders of various religions.
Queen Elizabeth II died last Thursday, at the age of 96, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, after 70 years and 214 days as head of state of the United Kingdom and 14 other countries.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on April 21, 1926 in London and became Queen of England in 1952, at the age of 25, after the sudden death of her father, George VI, who ascended the throne after the abdication of his brother Edward . VIII, to marry an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson.
After Isabel II’s death, her 73-year-old eldest son became king as Carlos III.
