Lula criticizes security in Brasilia, promises investigation and refuses coup

This Monday, Brazil’s president criticized the actions of security agents on Sunday, when “bolsonaristas” raided public institutions in Brasília in an attempted coup that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva guaranteed would not take place.

“She [apoiantes do ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro] they want a coup and there won’t be a coup”said Lula da Silva during a meeting with governors and representatives of the country’s 27 states, judges, ministers and politicians.

“They have to learn that democracy is the most complicated thing for us to do because it requires us to support others, it requires us to live with people we don’t like, who we don’t get along with, but it’s the only regime that gives everyone the chance to participate and whoever wins has the right to rule”he added.

In a meeting that brought together governors, judges of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), including the president of the court, Rosa Weber, ministers, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, the first vice president of the Senate, Veneziano Vital do Rego and the Prosecutor General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, Brazil’s head of state, also criticized the actions of the security agents who escorted the “bolsonaristas” to Praça dos Três Poderes before raiding public institutions.

“There was an explicit acknowledgment of the police who supported the protesters. Even here in the palace [do Planalto]Brazilian army soldier who talks to people as if they were allies”shot Lula da Silva.

The Brazilian president reaffirmed that at least 1,500 people have been arrested following the acts of violence in Brasilia and said the government will make efforts to investigate all those involved in vandalism.

Lula also guaranteed that the financiers of both the bus caravans that took them to Brasilia and the camps set up for barracks across the country, which were dismantled by court order on Monday after more than two months of mobilization, will be investigated. against the election results.

“We’re going to find out who funded and paid. I’m a specialist in camps and strikes and it’s impossible to go two months without funding to guarantee our daily bread. We’re not going to be authoritarian, but we’re going to investigate”said.

“It was very difficult for us to conquer democracy in that country. We have to learn to live together democratically in diversity”added Lula da Silva.

The ruler championed a union of politicians from the left, center, right and republican institutions to preserve democracy.

“We will not let democracy escape our hands, because it is the only chance for us to guarantee that these humble people can eat three times a day, or have the right to work”he concluded.

After the meeting, all participants left the Planalto Palace together and walked to STF headquarters, in a symbolic gesture of support for the judiciary that has been heavily attacked by Bolsonaro for the past four years and damaged on Sunday by supporters of the former president.

‘Bolsonaristas’ raided and vandalized the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court, Congress and the Planalto Palace in Brasília on Sunday, leading police to intervene to restore order and condemn the international community.

The Marechaussee succeeded in regaining control of the headquarters of the three powers, in an operation that resulted in approximately 1,500 arrests.

The invasion began after militants from Brazil’s far right, supporters of the former president, who was defeated by Lula da Silva in last October’s elections, called for protests at the Esplanada dos Ministérios.

However, Federal Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes impeached Federal District Governor Ibaneis Rocha for 90 days as both the governor and Bolsonaro’s former security minister and former justice minister Anderson Torres acted with negligence and omission.
