German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht tendered her resignation on Monday. “Today I presented to the Chancellor my resignation as Minister of Defense”, she reads herself in a note, quoted by Agence France-Presse.
Christine Lambrecht has made headlines in recent months for committing a series of political blunders. In her resignation note, she blames the press for focusing on her behavior, which prevented her from making “security policy decisions in the interest of the citizens of Germany.”
The main criticisms against Lambrecht concerned the way in which the minister intended to modernize the Armed Forces, as well as issues related to the supply of German weapons to Ukraine.
