Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, one of Vladimir Putin’s trusted men, visited the headquarters of Russian troops stationed in Ukraine. The information was advanced, in a statement, by the Russian government and the location was not revealed for security reasons.
According to the note, quoted by Agence France-Presse, Shoigu spoke with several commanders about “the progression of the combat mission.”
In a video also released by the Russian Defense Ministry, the minister can be seen handing out some gifts to the military. “You serve with dignity, you protect our homeland, you help those who need help, you do everything to bring the so-called Victory Day closer,” Shoigu said.
In December, the Russian minister had already paid two visits to the “special military operation” area, including to inspect the troops on the front line.
This new visit comes at a time when the West is preparing to send a new set of weapons to Ukrainian soil, in addition to tanks supplied by the United Kingdom and Poland.
Over the weekend, a Russian missile attack destroyed a nine-story residential building in Donetsk. At least 40 people died and more than 70 were injured. The United States and the European Union condemned this new Russian attack, calling it a “war crime.”
