Since last September, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been affected by an unprecedented wind of revolt, caused by the death of Mahsa Amini. The young woman of Kurdish origin died after her arrest by the morality police, who accused her of not wearing her veil correctly.

Visibly concerned about the scope of the revolt, the mullahs’ regime has since been working on a violent crackdown on the demonstrations. In addition to subduing and massively arresting those who dare to march, four protesters have already been hanged in the country.

Two teams on the field

Faced with the violence of the repression, many doctors also took to the streets to provide initial medical assistance to the wounded. This is the case of Keyvan, interviewed by franceinfo. As a medical student, he joined a collective called Le soleil rouge. After training in Iranian Kurdistan, he began his first aid missions.

“One of our members was collecting money, another was collecting medicine in the villages avoiding checkpoints. The protests,” he said.

The organization to help the wounded was well established. A first team was in the street, in order to provide first aid, while a second was in charge of transferring the most seriously injured to safe areas to provide them with more in-depth care.

flight to iraq

In addition to wounded women in his private area and protesters who lost an eye, Keyvan has images of people with their backs lacerated by bullets or their bodies covered in bruises.

He also did not escape the repression of the regime. “I was 21 days in prison. As you can see, my ring finger was cut off with a box cutter. The guards beat me. They poured cold water on me and gave me electric shocks. In fact, so many things that I still have a lot of trouble talking about it,” he said.

However, when he was released from prison, he decided to resume his activity. Only for a while, because the arrests around him continued, or even worse. Two of his teammates are now dead.

“There I was afraid that they would catch up with me and kill me. So I fled,” he told franceinfo. Keyvan is now a refugee in Iraq.
