The year-on-year inflation rate in the euro zone fell to 9.2% in December 2022, as confirmed by Eurostat on Wednesday, which announces a slowdown in the indicator in the European Union (EU) to 10.4%.
According to data from the EU statistical service, in the euro zone the annual inflation rate of 9.2% compares with 10.1% in November and 5.0% in December 2021, the second consecutive decline after 17 months of successive increases.
In the 27 Member States as a whole, the inflation rate also fell in December 2022, to 10.4%, compared with 11.1% in November, but still well above the 5.3% registered in the last month of 2021.
The drop in inflation in the energy component – which fell to 25.5%, compared to 34.9% – is the cause of the slowdown in the indicator in both areas.
