A woman and a child were killed on Tuesday by a polar bear that had already chased several residents of a small and remote Alaskan community, local authorities revealed. The animal was eventually shot to death by a resident during the attack on the two victims.
Alaska Department of Public Safety Communications Director Austin McDaniel revealed the victims are 24-year-old Summer Myomic and one-year-old Clyde Ongtowasruk. After this attack, local soldiers and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game decided to travel to the location, on Prince of Wales Island, to monitor the behavior of the polar bears, but the weather still did not allow them to reach their destination.
“Poor weather conditions in the region and poor lighting on airstrips on Prince of Wales Island have prevented Alaska Department of Fish and Game troops and personnel from arriving,” McDaniel said Wednesday, quoted by CNN International. .
