Igor Klimenko appointed as Interim Interior Minister of Ukraine

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmigal, announced this Wednesday the appointment of Igor Klimenko as interim interior minister, following the death this Wednesday of the previous responsible, Denys Monastyrskyi, after a helicopter crash.

Denys Shmigal reported that Igor Klimenko will assume these functions until a new name for the guardianship is submitted to parliament.according to the Spanish news agency Europa Press.

“The Ministry of Interior is one of the most important branches of our country’s security, so the necessary protocols are necessary to keep everything under control,” Denys Shmigal said in a message published on the Telegram platform.

Klimenko, who was deputy interior minister and head of Ukraine’s national police, was one of the first to report the death of Denys Monastyrskyi, along with more than a dozen people, including several children, after the crash. in the city of Brovary in the Kiev region.

Another 29 people were injured, including 15 children, and were taken to the local hospital.

Reacting to the events, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky lamented the “terrible tragedy” and expressed “indescribable pain”.

The helicopter, which crashed near a kindergarten and a residential building, was carrying nine people, including some of the most senior figures in the Interior Ministry. Besides Denys Monastyrskyi, First Deputy Minister Yevhen Yenin and Secretary of State Yurii Lubkovych were also on board, who also did not survive.

The Ukrainian presidency indicated on Wednesday that the representatives were on their way to the battle front.

“The purpose of this flight [era ir] to one of the hotspots in our country where fighting is taking place. The interior minister was on his way,” deputy chief of staff of the presidency Kyrylo Tymoshenko told Ukrainian television.

The helicopter belonged to the emergency services of Ukraine.

The helicopter crash is being investigated and all possible causes of the incident are being considered.

Commenting, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ukraine said: Denise Brown declared herself “deeply saddened” and offered her condolences “to the families, government and people of Ukraine”.
