Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked US President Joe Biden for the new $2.5 billion aid package, noting that it is “important support” to combat Russian forces.
“Thank you President of the United States for providing Ukraine with another powerful defense support package worth $2.5 billion (about 2.3 billion euros),” Zelensky wrote in a message he posted on Twitter.
The Stryker, Bradley and Avenger air defense systems “are an important aid in our fight against the aggressor,” he added.
The US Department of Defense said in a statement that it would send 59 Bradley tanks, 590 TOW anti-tank missiles and 295,000 25mm rounds to kyiv.
Washington is to supply Ukraine with eight Avenger air defense systems, 350 Humvees, 20,000 155-millimeter artillery pieces and 90 Stryker armored vehicles, 20 of which are equipped with mine clearance equipment.
The package also includes HARM air-to-surface missiles, which are used to destroy air defense systems, 2,000 anti-armor artillery rockets and 3 million small arms ammunition.
This Friday, fifty countries, which make up the contact group for Ukraine, meet at the US base in Ramstein, Germany, to decide on military aid to Ukraine.
kyiv’s orders are mainly concentrated in Leopoard 2 tanks, made in Germany.
