George Santos’ exclusive web of lies goes from the Holocaust to Wall Street

There are those who exaggerate on their resumes, there are those who lie on their official profiles, and then there’s George Santos, who practically invented his life. The 34-year-old Republican congressman, son of Brazilian immigrants, had not yet taken office and people were already calling for his resignation, including within the party. From the schools he attended to the jobs he held, the tragedies involving his family, no subject seems to have escaped his imagination. Only the frauds he allegedly committed were omitted.

The unraveling of the web of lies began in The New York Times and some were so fragile it’s hard to understand why they didn’t come out sooner. And how was he chosen? Apparently, some Republicans were already suspicious of the party’s first openly gay elected to Congress. But nothing was done. Now under investigation by New York lawyers (the state he was elected to) and the House of Representatives Ethics Committee, he still has the backing of leader Kevin McCarthy – who needs his voice in the face of the fragile majority he has.
