Lula da Silva meets Nicolas Maduro in Argentina

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will meet his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, this Monday in Buenos Aires in a parallel meeting during the new Brazilian leader’s first official visit to Argentina.

The confirmation of the meeting between Lula da Silva and Maduro took place after the change of commitments provided for in the agenda of the Brazilian president, although the possibility of this meeting having already been raised by the local press, citing sources from Brasília about six bilateral meetings of the Head of State of Brazil in Argentina, including a meeting with the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Brazil’s president arrived in Argentina on Sunday for a visit in which he will launch two integration projects, starting point for the recovery of the ground lost in international affairs, by his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro.

Lula’s official visit to Argentina precedes his participation, this Tuesday, in the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), in which the 33 countries of the region participate – including Brazil, which returns to the regional forum from which Bolsonaro had withdrawn the country in January 2020, in line with Donald Trump’s interest in emptying the voice of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, authoritarian regimes in the region.

After Argentina, Lula da Silva will visit Uruguay on Wednesday for a meeting with President Luis Lacalle Pou.
