A man killed three people before taking his own life Tuesday in the US state of Washington, police said, marking the third killing in four days in the western United States.
Two shootings have mourned California, killing at least eleven and seven people within 48 hours of each other, and hitting the Asian community in particular, where most of the victims came from.
This new murder took place around 03:30 a.m. Tuesday (12:30 p.m. in France) in and around a grocery store in Yakita, a city of 97,000 people two hours’ drive from Seattle.
Hunt
The 21-year-old suspect, Jarid Haddock, had no particular motive for attacking his victims, according to police.
“There was no apparent conflict between the people. The man just walked in (in the grocery store, editor’s note) and started shooting,” Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray said Tuesday.
He then shot two people outside the store, before stealing a car and fleeing. He went on a manhunt, with authorities warning the suspect was “armed and dangerous.”
Police then received a call from a woman saying that the wanted person had borrowed her phone. He “called his mother and made various incriminating statements like ‘I killed these people'” before saying he was going to kill himself, Matthew Murray told reporters.
Officers dispatched to the scene arrived just in time to hear the shots. They tried to resuscitate him, without success.
