Germany is going to send German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and has already authorized the transfer of tanks from other countries. For Major General Arnaut Moreira, the German government’s decision is the result of many negotiations.

The geopolitics and geostrategy researcher says that Germany’s decision was natural, especially since the West has already sent what it could in military terms.
“We also don’t have many other less technologically capable materials to supply. We, the West in general, have already been supplying material to Ukraine since the beginning of 2020 and therefore, at one point, we no longer have material available.” without increasing technology level. Although each country does not contribute many tanks, “the sum of small contributions can give an interesting capacity to the Ukrainian forces,” says Major General Arnaut Moreira.
Other countries allied with Ukraine are ready to follow this decision, including Portugal. Arnaut Moreira estimates that the countries will each supply around 14 Leopard 2 tanks and warns that it will take time for them to be operational.
“Time is needed to train and put these tanks into operation, because probably some of these tanks that will be offered by the different countries are not yet in a condition to be delivered and start operating.”
The training should take place on military bases in the West, he says.
