At least two people have been killed in a stabbing attack on a regional train in Germany. The alleged perpetrator was arrested and the train immobilized according to the German police. So far the motive for the attack is unknown.
According to the magazine Der Spiegel, the events took place shortly before 3:00 p.m. near the town of Brokstedt, aboard a train that linked Hamburg and Kiel. Five other people were injured in the attack.
Canceled trains on main lines
A large number of police vehicles and ambulances have been deployed around the station, according to photos published by the Bild newspaper. Deutsche Bahn has announced that trains will be canceled on the main lines.
German authorities have remained vigilant in recent years about the jihadist threat, particularly since an attack involving vans claimed by the Islamic State group that killed 12 people in December 2016 in Berlin. This jihadist attack is the deadliest ever committed on German soil.
Another threat looms over Germany, embodied by the extreme right, after several deadly attacks in recent years against community or religious places.
