The United States Geological Survey (USGS) this morning detected a magnitude 5.3 earthquake with an epicenter near the Cape Verde islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente, with no known material impact or casualties.
According to information from the USGS consulted by Lusa, the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10,000 meters, 75 kilometers from Porto Novo, on the island of Santo Antão, and 75.2 kilometers from Mindelo, São Vicente. 03:16 local time (another hour in Lisbon).
The earthquake was felt on several islands in Cape Verde, in addition to Santo Antão and São Vicente, according to reports from several people in the Cape Verdean media early in the morning.
There are still reports of minor stone falls occurring, but so far with no property damage or confirmed casualties.
