A welcome military aid, but a worrying delay. Vadym Omelchenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to France, announced on January 27 on BFMTV that Western countries promised 321 heavy tanks to kyiv to deal with Russian soldiers.
“Today, many countries have officially confirmed their agreement to deliver 321 heavy tanks to Ukraine,” the diplomat said on our antenna.
However, Vadym Omelchenko stressed the importance of Ukrainian forces receiving these tanks as soon as possible: “as regards delivery times, they vary in each case.”
“We need this help as soon as possible”
“Some (countries, editor’s note) need to do maintenance work, others decide on logistics, others wait to receive other models to give what they give,” explained the ambassador on BFM TV.
“We need this help as soon as possible,” asked Vadym Omelchenko, “if you wait until August or September it will be too late.”
However, the regrouping, dispatch and training of Ukrainian soldiers for Western heavy tanks should take place over several months. A delay that deprives Ukraine of a weighty weapon against a Russia that continues to occupy its territory and hopes to conquer other cities like Soledar.
“This risk exists, so it is a danger and our president, in his speech today, emphasized that it had to be done as quickly as possible,” Vadym Omelchenko concluded on BFMTV.
