Ukraine: Lula says Brazil is not interested in supplying munitions of war

Brazil’s president, Lula da Silva, said Monday in the presence of the German chancellor that Brazil has no interest in giving ammunition to Ukraine.

Germany asked Brazil to supply tank ammunition for Berlin to send to Ukraine. This request was categorically rejected.

“Brazil has no interest in passing on munitions for use in war,” said Lula da Silva at a press conference at the Planalto Palace along with Germany’s chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the first foreign leader to pay an official visit to the country since the former union leader returned to power.

“Brazil is a land of peace”emphasized Lula da Silva and therefore “does not want to have any say, not even indirectly” in this war.

“So far the word peace is little used”, he said, stating that “when one doesn’t want to, two don’t fight,” referring to the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Lula da Silva, questioned last year about his statements in the Times magazine, where he said Zelensky was as guilty as Putin, now stressed that he has more clarity today.

‘Russia committed a blunder by invading Ukraine’said.

However, he said “the reason should be clearer”, whether it was NATO’s fault or because Ukraine wanted to join the European Union.

Lula da Silva also compared this war to the one in Iraq that happened “because of a lie”

“Saddam had no guns and Bush knew he had no guns”said.

Brazil’s president also said he will propose a kind of G20 to resolve the war, adding that Brazil, China, India and Indonesia can play an important role towards peace, not least because the current interlocutors ” have nothing left to create”

Lula da Silva said he has already spoken with the French president on the subject and will speak with Joe Biden when he goes to the US on February 10 and the Chinese president when he goes to Beijing in March.

“Our Chinese friends play a very important role”he stressed.

“It’s time for China to roll up its sleeves”said.

On the other hand, the German Chancellor went ahead with the western alignment and said so “Russia cannot continue as before, it must understand that it has failed”.
