New drama in America. At least ten people were injured in a shooting in Lakeland, Florida, CNN reports. Local police chief Sam Taylor said two people are in “critical condition” after being attacked by four gunmen.
The suspects in this shooting were in a Nissan car when they opened fire.
“The vehicle slowed down, did not stop and all four windows rolled down. (…) They began shooting from all four windows of the vehicle and shooting at men on both sides,” explains Sam Taylor.
“It’s something that doesn’t happen in Lakeland”
Authorities will now look to determine who was in the car. An investigation has been opened.
Sam Taylor told CNN that in his 34 years with the Lakeland Police Department, he had never worked on a case where so many people were shot at once. “It’s something that doesn’t happen in Lakeland,” he says.
The United States pays a heavy price for the proliferation of firearms on its soil and the ease with which Americans have access to them. Some 49,000 people were killed by firearms in the United States in 2021, up from 45,000 in 2020, which was already a record year. This represents more than 130 deaths per day, more than half of which are suicides.
