Ukraine said on Tuesday it was expecting up to 140 tanks from Western allies, which have agreed to supply high-powered weapons after several weeks of deliberations.
“Ukraine’s armed forces will receive between 120 and 140 modern Western tanks,” said Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, describing the number as the “first wave of contributions”. “These are Leopard 2, Challenger 2, M1 Abrams,” he added.
“We also count on Leclerc a lot,” said Kuleba, referring to the French war tankadding that twelve countries have agreed to send tanks.
The diplomat also said they are negotiating to receive Western fighters and long-range missiles. “These are not climbing weapons,” he said, guaranteeing that “they are weapons of defense and deterrence for the aggressor.”
The United States and Germany last week announced the delivery of Abrams and Leopard tanks to Ukraine, a move seen as a step forward in efforts to support Ukraine.
