Prime Minister Denys Chmygal confirmed on Tuesday the holding of a summit between Ukraine and the European Union on Friday in Kyiv, a day after “intergovernmental consultations” between Kyiv and the European Commission that will take place “for the first time in our history”. .
“The fact that this summit is being held in Kyiv is a strong signal to both our partners and our enemies,” Denys Chmygal declared during a government meeting, saying “to expect from the summit a positive midterm assessment of our efforts for the European integration”. “.
These are “two events of great importance for the European integration of Ukraine,” he insisted.
The talks on Thursday and the summit on Friday must allow “Europe to believe in the victory of Ukraine” while “supporting our rapid movement towards EU membership,” Denys Chmygal insisted on Tuesday.
Create “a detailed roadmap”
“To the enemies: this is a signal about the futility of their efforts to sow discord in the coalition that supports Ukraine and abort our Euro-Atlantic integration,” he argued, while Russia had partly justified its invasion of Ukraine by the risk, according to him, represented by a possible rapprochement between kyiv and nato.
According to Denys Chmygal, “we want to create a detailed roadmap on how to get on the road to European integration as quickly as possible.”
In particular, he cited access to the European economic market as “fundamentally important” for Kyiv, while the Ukrainian economy has collapsed for a year.
By the end of June 2022, Ukraine had received the status of an official candidate for membership of the European Union, a strong symbolic gesture, four months after the start of the Russian invasion. However, this process can take years to complete.
