“Putin will never attack NATO”: Ukrainian Defense Minister does not believe in an extension of the conflict

Oleksiy Reznikov assures that a war between Russia and NATO members is lost “100%” by Moscow, and that Vladimir Putin “knows it very well”.

Towards an extension of the Ukrainian conflict? Invited this Wednesday on BFMTV, Oleksiy Reznikov, Ukraine’s Defense Minister, estimated that Moscow should “attempt an offensive” around February 24, the symbolic date of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion. However, according to the Kyiv representative, the conflict should be limited to Ukrainian territory and not spread to neighboring countries.

“I think it’s out and I’ll tell you why. Putin sees how effective NATO weapons are, and that in limited quantities, and how he loses on the ground, ”he argues.

Oleksiy Reznikov is convinced of this, the Russian president and his generals are well aware that a war against the Alliance countries is not viable, and he thinks that “Putin will never attack NATO”.

“Putin knows very well that if he really comes into conflict with the Alliance countries, he loses 100%. He presents his war in Ukraine as a war against the West and explains that he cannot win because NATO is against them. But he actually only faces the Ukrainian army, ”insists the minister.

“Who’s next?”

On the other hand, still during this interview with BFMTV, Oleksiy Reznikov assures that the dangers for NATO are very real outside the Ukrainian conflict. As proof of this, he points to the conclusions reached at the end of the Madrid Alliance summit in June 2022.

“We have clearly defined the threats, and for ten years Russia has been defined as the main enemy, as a threat to NATO,” he recalls.

“If Ukraine ever falls, who are next? The Baltic countries, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, which are NATO countries, then we will have to respond. The Russians are not going to stop themselves, they must be stopped anyway.” in Ukraine so as not to shed the blood of other nations. May Ukraine win,” insisted the minister.

Still regarding the Alliance, Reznikov assured that Ukraine is “in the process of acquiring its right to be a member of NATO.” “We have received the weapons that meet the standards, we are working on our interoperability according to NATO standards,” he said.

After thanking France for sending 12 new Caesar guns, the minister recalled the need for Ukraine to quickly acquire “air resources” and called for the training of Ukrainian pilots in aircraft likely to be provided by allied countries.
