Boeing won a $1.6 billion (1.45 billion euro) contract to supply the United States with guidance systems for Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles, the Pentagon announced.
All equipment must be delivered by February 1, 2039, and “work will be performed at Hill Air Force Base in Utah,” the US Department of Defense said Wednesday, which publishes daily contracts awarded to different suppliers.
The specific number of guidance systems to be delivered by construction company Boeing is not specified in the contract.
The Minuteman III, in service for 50 years, is equipped with a warhead capable of carrying a nuclear bomb.
In the US nuclear arsenal, this is the only ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and is housed in launch silos at three military bases in the northern US, Wyoming, North Dakota and Montana .
