The Israeli army and Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip clashed early Thursday, less than two days after a visit by the US Secretary of State calling for de-escalation of the conflict.

Israeli airstrikes were expected after a Palestinian missile was fired on Wednesday but was intercepted by the air defense system.

Emergency services on both sides reported no casualties.

According to local Palestinian security sources, the Israeli strikes hit a training center of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas, in Al-Maghazi refugee camp, in the central part of the Gaza Strip. , and another in southwest Gaza City.

In a statement, the Israeli army said the fighter jets had “hit a production center [e] storage of chemical raw materials used for a Hamas missile production line and a weapons production center, both in the Gaza Strip, an area of ​​2.3 million people under Israeli blockade since Hamas took power in 2007.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a secular Palestinian armed group, claimed that between these attacks it fired a series of rockets “in response to Zionist aggression”, which set off warning sirens in Sderot, in southern Israel, near of the Gaza Strip.
