Ukraine: Scholz says there is no room for mediation with Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz warned this Thursday that there is “unfortunately” not “the space required” to mediate with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the invasion of Ukraine.

In any case, he guaranteed that he would continue to talk to him, despite criticism of “the imperialist war” he launched, at a debate forum with German citizens, where the dominant theme was the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On that occasion, he stressed that the road to peace negotiations should be marked by the “withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine”.

Scholz insisted on the need to keep talking to Putin “as long as it takes”, as he has done along with French President Emmanuel Macron.

However, he warned that the bet on diplomacy should not lose sight of the fact that Putin “has violently attacked the borders of another country” and that his aim is “to acquire illegal territory”, in addition to causing pain, despair and death among Ukrainians. .
